Orix Aviation:

15,000 Sq Ft  |  12 Weeks Duration  |  Finance Sector  |  Ireland

Orix Aviation is a world leading aviation investor and aircraft manager with an annual turnover in excess of $1.3bn. With their global HQ in Dublin and further offices in Hong Kong and Tokyo, S-L-M-D have enjoyed a strong working relationship with Orix Aviation by delivering 4 projects over the last 6 years.

Our last venture was to design and project manage the upgrading of their building lighting system and floorcoverings, the installation of a new café lounge and meeting room that could open to form a townhall/function suite, the swop over of large radial desk units to a new bench type system and the extension and upgrade of their existing Boardroom to cope with expanding team numbers including top tier audio visual and video conferencing equipment.

The office is surrounded by floor to ceiling glass with a sea front view that was to remain the focus of the design. We examined how light entered the building at various times of the working day and designed angular panels to interplay with the light.

The café/lounge area utilized a monochromatic colour scheme with flashes of taupe, copper, mustard, and brass. Roche Bobois tables and chairs sit alongside Carrera marble worktops and Tom Dixon inspired pendant lights. The folding wall is finished in a microfiber upholstery and brass shelving units hang from the ceiling over burnt timber effect cabinetry. The space is deliberately mature and inviting without feeling extravagant.

SLMD Work Orix Aviation Cord and Nail

A tale of Cord and Nail

Designed and installed in collaboration with the then CEO David Power and artist Josh Joyce, the entrance to the 3rd floor at Orix Aviation Dublin is dominated by a full height cord and nail art installation that replicates the logo of Orix Aviation.

The amount of chord used was the equivalent of

  • The wingspan of 37 Boeing 747s.
  • 18 Spires stacked on top of one another.
  • Twice the height of the Carrauntoohil mountain.
  • Just over 10 times the height of the Cliffs of Moher.

In nails there are just over 4,500 measuring 40mm each. This equates to 180 Meters of nails when lined up or roughly:

  • 51 Great white Sharks tip to tail.
  • 39 Mercedes S class parked in a line.
  • The length of 3.6 Olympic swimming pools.
  • 3 times the height of the world’s largest wooden rollercoaster
